Ribosomal protein L23a pseudogene 11 (RPL23AP11) is a non-functional DNA sequence in the human genome that resembles the ribosomal protein L23a gene, but it does not encode a functional protein and is classified as a pseudogene. Pseudogenes arise from duplication or retrotransposition events and often accumulate mutations that render them incapable of producing active proteins. While some pseudogenes can affect expression of homologous genes through gene conversion or regulatory effects, there is no evidence that RPL23AP11 has such a biological role. RPL23AP11 is not recognized as a therapeutic target, biomarker, or druggable receptor. It may sometimes be confused with other members of the ribosomal protein L23a pseudogene family that have been considered for research purposes in disease association, but RPL23AP11 itself is not associated with any disease or therapy.
