Overview

Ribosomal protein L23a pseudogene 17 (RPL23AP17) is a pseudogene related to the human ribosomal protein L23a gene.[2][3][4] Pseudogenes are non-functional segments of DNA similar to known genes, often resulting from gene duplication or retrotransposition, and do not encode functional proteins. RPL23AP17 is classified as a processed pseudogene, lacking known biological function, protein product, or involvement in disease. It is one of many ribosomal protein L23a pseudogenes dispersed throughout the human genome. There is currently no evidence that RPL23AP17 has a direct role as a therapeutic target, biomarker, or has known interactions with drugs.[2][3][4] Additional clarification: RPL23AP17 should not be confused with the functional gene *RPL23A*, which encodes the ribosomal subunit protein L23a. The pseudogene has no validated biological activity or therapeutic relevance in current literature.[2][3][4] Note: If you are looking for functional ribosomal protein targets or cancer biomarkers, references to *RPL23AP53* exist, but RPL23AP17 itself has no such data.[1]
