Ribosomal protein L23a pseudogene 23 (RPL23AP23) is one of many processed pseudogenes derived from the ribosomal protein L23a gene (RPL23A)[1][3]. Pseudogenes are generally non-coding DNA segments originating from ancestor protein-coding genes, often unable to produce functional proteins due to accumulated mutations.
