Overview

RPL23AP35 (ribosomal protein L23a pseudogene 35) is one of over ninety related pseudogenes derived from the *RPL23A* ribosomal protein gene, which encodes a component of the large 60S ribosomal subunit. Pseudogenes typically result from retrotransposition or gene duplication and lack the ability to produce functional proteins. While the functional *RPL23A* gene is involved in cellular protein synthesis and has been implicated in various biological and disease processes, RPL23AP35 itself is considered non-coding, with no protein product or confirmed functional role. Current evidence does not support its use as a therapeutic target or biomarker. Some studies indicate differential expression of other ribosomal protein L23a pseudogenes (notably RPL23AP53), suggesting that pseudogenes might have tissue-specific roles or participate indirectly in gene regulation. However, the biological significance of RPL23AP35 remains uncharacterized, and it is not known to interact with drugs or play a direct role in disease. RPL23AP35 should not be classified as a therapeutic target, receptor, or protein. It is a non-coding pseudogene with no well-established biological, clinical, or pharmacological roles.
