Overview

Ribosomal protein L23a pseudogene 37 (RPL23AP37) represents a processed pseudogene in the human genome that is homologous to the ribosomal protein L23a gene (RPL23A). Unlike the functional RPL23A gene, which encodes a component of the 60S ribosomal subunit crucial for protein synthesis[5][7], RPL23AP37 does not encode a functional protein and is not expressed as part of any characterized biological pathway or disease mechanism. The existence of multiple processed pseudogenes for ribosomal proteins is common, resulting from ancestral gene duplication and retrotransposition events[5][7]. RPL23AP37 has no established physiological role, is not linked to drug interactions or clinical biomarkers, and is not considered a molecular target for pharmacological intervention[3][7][8].
