Overview

Ribosomal protein L23a pseudogene 41 (RPL23AP41) is a non-coding DNA sequence in the human genome that shares sequence similarity with the RPL23A gene, which encodes the ribosomal protein component of the large 60S subunit involved in cytoplasmic protein synthesis. However, as a pseudogene, RPL23AP41 does not produce a functional protein and is not considered a biological or therapeutic target. There is no direct evidence of RPL23AP41 having a biological function, disease role, or drug interaction. The RPL23A gene itself gives rise to numerous processed pseudogenes (over 90), but the biological relevance of individual pseudogenes like RPL23AP41 is unproven, and most are considered transcriptionally silent. While some pseudogenes related to ribosomal proteins have gained attention for their possible role in cancer biology (notably RPL23AP53) as noncoding RNAs affecting gene regulation, such roles have not been described for RPL23AP41 specifically.
