Ribosomal protein L23a pseudogene 45 (RPL23AP45)

Target
RPL23AP45
Molecular classification
Other (pseudogene; does not code for a functional protein and is not part of canonical target classes such as enzyme, receptor, transporter, etc.)
01

Overview

Ribosomal protein L23a pseudogene 45 (RPL23AP45) is a processed pseudogene of the ribosomal protein L23a gene dispersed within the human genome[1][4]. As a pseudogene, it is a non-coding segment and is not transcribed into a functional protein. The RPL23AP45 gene is cataloged in gene databases, but there is no evidence supporting its role as a protein-coding gene or as a direct therapeutic target. Some ribosomal protein L23a pseudogenes (such as RPL23AP53) have been studied for regulatory functions and associations with cancer phenotypes, but there are currently no published data on RPL23AP45 with regard to molecular function, disease role, or druggability. Conservation of such pseudogenes suggests some may possess regulatory or as-yet-undescribed biological roles, but these are not yet proven for RPL23AP45[4].

Mechanism of action

None known (pseudogenes are generally not direct drug targets)

03

Biological functions

Other (specifically, as a pseudogene, it is a non-coding RNA that may have regulatory functions, though any molecular function remains unproven)
04

Disease associations

Other (no direct evidence links RPL23AP45 to specific diseases; functions and disease associations of closely related ribosomal protein L23a pseudogenes (such as RPL23AP53) have been described, but not specifically RPL23AP45)
05

Safety considerations

None known (as there is no direct therapeutic targeting)
06

Interacting drugs

None known (no evidence of drugs targeting this pseudogene)
07

Biomarkers

None known for RPL23AP45 (related L23a pseudogenes, like RPL23AP53, have been associated with biomarker potential in cancer, but RPL23AP45 specifically is not reported as a biomarker)
