RPL23AP47 (Ribosomal protein L23a pseudogene 47) is a _processed pseudogene_ located in the human genome. It is part of a large family of ribosomal protein L23a pseudogenes dispersed throughout the genome, which are remnants of gene duplication or retrotransposition events. Unlike its parental gene, RPL23A, which encodes a component of the ribosomal 60S subunit, RPL23AP47 does _not encode_ a functional protein and has no known biological function[3][7][8]. Pseudogenes like RPL23AP47 are generally transcriptionally silent but can sometimes be used as markers in genome studies or as controls. There is no evidence supporting a direct role for RPL23AP47 in disease, nor utility as a therapeutic target or biomarker.
