Overview

Ribosomal protein L23a pseudogene 55 (RPL23AP55) is a non-coding pseudogene in the human genome, derived from the RPL23A gene that encodes a ribosomal protein. This locus does not produce a functional protein and is considered a processed pseudogene. While the biological role of RPL23AP55 is not established, some ribosomal pseudogenes have been investigated for potential regulatory functions such as acting as competing endogenous RNAs ("molecular sponges") for microRNAs. There is currently no evidence that RPL23AP55 itself is involved in disease processes, serves as a drug target, or is integral to cellular pathways; its functional significance remains unclear[4][1][3][6].

Biological functions

Other (Possible fine-tuning of gene expression through non-coding RNA effects; no established protein function)
03

Disease associations

Other (No direct evidence for disease involvement; ribosomal protein L23a pseudogene family may have indirect regulatory roles, e.g., as molecular sponges influencing microRNA activity)
04

Biomarkers

Potential association of expression with melanoma prognosis, as higher expression of related pseudogene (RPL23AP53) correlated with improved survival and altered immune cell infiltration profiles in melanoma patients
