Target intelligence / Profile preview
Ribosomal protein L23a pseudogene 57 is a processed pseudogene of the ribosomal protein L23a (RPL23A) gene, identified in the human genome as RPL23AP57[4][9]. Pseudogenes like RPL23AP57 do not generally encode functional proteins due to sequence changes or truncation[5]. While some pseudogenes may have regulatory functions at the RNA level or may be expressed in certain tissues, this particular pseudogene has not been characterized as having any protein-coding capacity or direct biological function[4][2]. The functional RPL23A gene is part of the large (60S) ribosomal subunit and involved in protein synthesis, but RPL23AP57 is one of dozens of RPL23A-related pseudogenes with no known clinical, pharmacological, or therapeutic relevance[1][6]. Studies of other RPL23A pseudogenes (e.g., RPL23AP53) suggest that pseudogenes may be differentially expressed in cancer, sometimes correlating with outcomes, but there is no direct evidence for a role of RPL23AP57 in disease[2]. There are no drugs, biomarkers, or safety concerns associated with this pseudogene. RPL23AP57 is a processed pseudogene of a ribosomal protein gene, not a functional therapeutic target or clinically relevant molecule[4][8][9].
