Ribosomal protein L23a pseudogene 59 (RPL23AP59) is a processed pseudogene of the human RPL23A gene, which encodes a component of the 60S large ribosomal subunit. Pseudogenes like RPL23AP59 do not produce functional proteins and typically lack biological activity. While the parental gene RPL23A plays a structural role in protein synthesis as part of the ribosome, and some RPL23A pseudogenes have been studied for altered expression in cancer, there is no current evidence that RPL23AP59 itself is functionally relevant, disease-associated, or a therapeutic target.
