Ribosomal protein L23a pseudogene 6 (RPL23AP6) is a processed pseudogene in the human genome, meaning it is a non-functional segment of DNA that is similar to the protein-coding gene for ribosomal protein L23a (RPL23A) but does not encode a protein product. Such pseudogenes are remnants of gene duplication or retrotransposition events and are generally transcriptionally inactive, lacking regulatory elements or containing disruptive mutations. RPL23AP6 is one of many pseudogenes related to the ribosomal protein gene family scattered throughout the genome. There is no evidence to support a functional protein product or a direct role as a drug target or disease biomarker at this time[4][8][7].
