Overview

Ribosomal protein L23a pseudogene 63 (RPL23AP63) is a processed pseudogene of the ribosomal protein L23a gene (RPL23A). It belongs to a large family of ribosomal protein pseudogenes distributed throughout the genome. Pseudogenes like RPL23AP63 are generally considered non-functional genomic elements that do not encode active proteins and do not participate directly in cellular processes. The parent gene RPL23A codes for a structural component of the 60S ribosomal subunit, essential for protein synthesis, but the pseudogene copy lacks coding capacity and has no known biological activity or disease role. There is no evidence that RPL23AP63 serves as a therapeutic target, biomarker, or drug interaction partner. Note: - RPL23AP63 is often cataloged for genomic and evolutionary studies but is not referenced in the literature as having clinical or therapeutic relevance. - Canonical gene (not the pseudogene) is associated with structural roles in ribosomes and certain diseases, but these do not apply to RPL23AP63 as a pseudogene.
