Overview

Ribosomal protein L23a pseudogene 74 (RPL23AP74) is a non-protein-coding pseudogene located on human chromosome 17q23.2. It shares sequence similarity with the functional ribosomal protein L23a gene but does not produce a functional ribosomal protein. Unlike functional ribosomal protein L23a, which forms part of the ribosome, RPL23AP74 has no known protein-coding capacity or direct cellular role. There is no evidence that RPL23AP74 is involved in human disease, signal transduction, or therapeutic targeting. However, some ribosomal protein pseudogenes have been recently explored for potential regulatory roles as non-coding RNAs, although there are currently no data supporting such a function for RPL23AP74 itself[1][4][7][10].
