Ribosomal protein L23a pseudogene 75 (RPL23AP75) is a processed pseudogene in the human genome related to the ribosomal protein L23a gene (RPL23A), which encodes a component of the large 60S ribosomal subunit. There are over 90 RPL23A pseudogenes dispersed throughout the human genome, including RPL23AP75, none of which are known to produce a functional protein product[3][4]. Pseudogenes such as RPL23AP75 lack protein-coding capability, typically due to accumulated mutations or lack of necessary regulatory sequences. These pseudogenes are sometimes annotated and tracked in genomic databases for completeness or evolutionary studies but are not generally relevant as drug targets, biological receptors, or enzymes. There is currently no evidence linking RPL23AP75 to disease mechanisms, biomarker utility, or therapeutic relevance[4][3]. For research involving ribosomal protein L23a, focus should be on the intact RPL23A gene, not pseudogene family members such as RPL23AP75[3].
