Ribosomal protein L23a pseudogene 92 (RPL23AP92) is a human pseudogene that shares sequence similarity with the gene encoding ribosomal protein L23a but does not produce a functional protein product[2][5]. Pseudogenes are DNA segments resembling normal genes but generally nonfunctional due to mutations or lack of regulatory elements. There is currently no evidence suggesting that RPL23AP92 encodes a functional protein or plays an active role in cellular processes or disease; accordingly, it is not considered a therapeutic target or biomarker, and there are no associated interacting drugs or drug mechanisms[2][5]. This pseudogene is distinct from ribosomal protein L23a itself and should not be confused with other L23a pseudogenes (of which more than 100 exist in the human genome)[3]. At this time, nothing suggests a role for RPL23AP92 in disease biology or its utility as a molecular or therapeutic target.
