RPL26P13 is a human processed pseudogene derived from the gene encoding ribosomal protein L26. It does not code for a functional protein and is generally considered to lack biological activity. Pseudogenes such as RPL26P13 arise from gene duplication or retrotransposition events and often resemble their functional parental genes at the nucleotide level but are typically transcriptionally silent or lack functional protein-coding ability. It is not a therapeutic target, and no disease association, biological function, or interaction with drugs has been reported for RPL26P13. It is sometimes mistakenly considered a protein-coding gene due to nomenclature overlap with its parent gene, but its functional status is unambiguously defined as pseudogene in major databases.
