RPL26P34 (ribosomal protein L26 pseudogene 34) is a processed pseudogene in the human genome related to the ribosomal protein L26 gene (RPL26). Processed pseudogenes are nonfunctional segments of DNA that originate from retrotransposed mRNA and are generally unable to produce functional protein products. RPL26P34 has high sequence similarity to its parent gene RPL26, which encodes a component of the 60S ribosomal subunit essential for protein synthesis, but RPL26P34 itself lacks protein-coding ability due to loss of regulatory elements or disruptive mutations typical to pseudogenes[1][2][5][7][10][8][11]. There is no evidence of RPL26P34 being involved in signaling, enzymatic activity, transport, transcription regulation, or disease, nor does it have any known interactions with drugs or function as a biomarker.
