Overview

Ribosomal protein L26 pseudogene 35 (RPL26P35) is a processed pseudogene derived from the ribosomal protein L26 gene. In humans, Ribosomal protein L26 is a component of the 60S ribosomal subunit, playing a role in protein synthesis and, to some extent, p53 mRNA regulation. However, the pseudogene RPL26P35 does not produce a functional protein and is considered genomically inert. Processed pseudogenes such as RPL26P35 arise from retrotransposition events and are dispersed throughout the genome; they generally do not have coding capability or regulatory function[1][2][5]. While ribosomal protein L26 and some other ribosomal proteins have been implicated in various cellular processes and disease mechanisms, these roles do not apply to RPL26P35, which is essentially an inactive DNA segment.
