Ribosomal protein L26 pseudogene 9 (RPL26P9) is a processed pseudogene originating from the gene encoding ribosomal protein L26. Pseudogenes arise from retrotransposition or duplication events and generally do not produce functional proteins in humans. The RPL26P9 sequence shares high similarity with functional ribosomal protein L26 but does not play an active role in ribosome biology or disease. Its presence in the genome is mainly a consequence of past evolutionary events, contributing to genetic diversity but not functional biology. Pseudogenes like RPL26P9 can sometimes be mistaken for functional genes in genetic assays, but have no established role in molecular processes, disease, or therapeutics.
