RPL27P12 (ribosomal protein L27 pseudogene 12) is a processed pseudogene in the human genome related to the ribosomal protein L27 gene (RPL27). Unlike its parent gene, RPL27P12 does not code for an active ribosomal protein; its sequence is similar in structure but contains disabling mutations that render it non-functional. Like other ribosomal pseudogenes, it has arisen through retrotransposition but is simply a remnant of the protein-coding gene with no current role in protein synthesis or other cellular functions[2][3]. Pseudogenes of ribosomal proteins are frequent in the human genome and are neither expressed nor capable of producing functional proteins[2][3]. RPL27P12 is a pseudogene, not a therapeutic target, and does not participate in any known molecular pathways or diseases.
