Overview

Ribosomal protein L27a pseudogene 7 (RPL27AP7) is a processed pseudogene in the human genome that shares strong sequence similarity with the functional ribosomal protein L27a gene (RPL27A).[3][4][5][6] Like other pseudogenes, RPL27AP7 does not code for a functional protein and is not known to be translated or involved in canonical ribosomal protein functions. While some ribosomal pseudogenes have been occasionally reported to be transcribed or to play regulatory roles, there is no evidence indicating that RPL27AP7 has such a function[3][4][5]. This locus is not a therapeutic target, nor is it associated with any known drugs, mechanism of action, biomarker utility, or disease role. RPL27AP7 is part of a large family of processed pseudogenes that arose from duplication and retrotransposition events of ribosomal protein genes[1][3][4][5][6]. Its entry in major genetic databases (HGNC, NCBI Gene, Ensembl) consistently describes its status as a pseudogene, with no reported protein product or implication in disease or therapy.
