RPL28P6 is a processed pseudogene of the ribosomal protein L28 gene (RPL28). The functional parent gene RPL28 encodes a component of the large 60S ribosomal subunit and is involved in protein synthesis in the cytoplasm. Like many ribosomal protein genes, RPL28 is accompanied by multiple processed pseudogenes dispersed throughout the human genome, but these pseudogenes—including RPL28P6—do not encode functional proteins and have no recognized biological activity. They are remnants of gene duplication or retrotransposition events and are generally non-coding. There is no evidence linking RPL28P6 with any disease, drug mechanism, or therapeutic relevance.
