Overview

Ribosomal protein L29 pseudogene is a noncoding DNA sequence in the human genome closely related to the functional ribosomal protein L29 gene but rendered nonfunctional by mutations, deletions, or duplications. Pseudogenes do not usually produce a functional protein, often lacking promoters or containing premature stop codons, and exist as "junk" DNA or regulatory elements. While some pseudogenes have been found to play roles in gene regulation, such as acting as microRNA decoys or participating in noncoding RNA networks, the ribosomal protein L29 pseudogene has not been directly implicated in such roles and is not considered a therapeutic drug target.

Biological functions

Most are nonfunctionalSome pseudogenes may act as regulators via RNA interference or as microRNA decoys, but such functions are not described for ribosomal protein L29 pseudogenes in current literatureOther
03

Disease associations

The field is evolving, but there is no demonstrated direct involvement in disease for ribosomal protein L29 pseudogenes. Some pseudogenes can regulate oncogenes, but not established for this locusOther
04

Biomarkers

Not a recognized biomarker for patient selection or efficacy monitoringRarely, pseudogenes may have biomarker applications if transcribed in disease, but no evidence for this pseudogene
