Ribosomal protein L29 pseudogene 16 (RPL29P16) is a processed pseudogene related to the gene encoding ribosomal protein L29. Pseudogenes are genomic sequences similar to known genes but are non-functional—they do not encode functional proteins and do not participate in cellular biochemical processes such as catalysis, transport, or signaling[3][6][10]. RPL29P16 is not considered a protein-coding gene, receptor, or enzyme, and has no known biological function, disease associations, nor does it serve as a therapeutic target. Its presence is the result of duplication and retrotransposition events involving the functional RPL29 gene[3][10]. Thus, RPL29P16 is not a druggable target, nor does it interact with any drugs, have a role in disease, or serve as a biomarker. Note: The main protein of the family, ribosomal protein L29 (RPL29), is a structural component of the ribosome important for protein synthesis, but pseudogene 16 is only a non-coding genomic sequence without biological activity[1][3][10].
