Ribosomal protein L3 pseudogene 2 (RPL3P2) is a genetic element classified as a pseudogene. Unlike the functional ribosomal protein L3 gene (RPL3), which encodes a core component of the 60S ribosomal subunit and is essential for protein synthesis[8][7][5], RPL3P2 does not possess coding potential for a functional protein[3]. Pseudogenes such as RPL3P2 are typically remnants of evolutionarily duplicated genes that have lost their protein-coding ability due to mutations.
