Ribosomal protein L30 pseudogene 12 (RPL30P12) is one of many processed pseudogenes present in the human genome, derived from the parent RPL30 gene coding for ribosomal protein L30, a component of the 60S subunit of cytoplasmic ribosomes. Pseudogenes such as RPL30P12 arise from gene duplication or retrotransposition events; they typically lack regulatory elements, introns, and do not encode functional proteins. Abundant ribosomal protein pseudogenes exist in the human genome, but only very few (the so-called "rescued pseudogenes") have any documented function or expression. RPL30P12 itself has no evidence of being a transcribed, translated, or functional protein, nor is it recognized as a drug target, biomarker, or molecule involved in disease pathways. Its listing as a therapeutic target, receptor, enzyme, transporter, or similar is incorrect. The parent gene, RPL30, is protein-coding and has roles in ribosome structure and diseases such as Diamond-Blackfan anemia, but RPL30P12 does not share these properties.
