Ribosomal protein L30 pseudogene 13 (RPL30P13) is a noncoding, processed pseudogene derived from the ribosomal protein L30 gene family. Pseudogenes like RPL30P13 originate from once-functional genes that have acquired disabling mutations such as frameshifts, premature stop codons, or regulatory region mutations, rendering them incapable of producing a functional protein. RPL30P13 is one of numerous ribosomal protein pseudogenes scattered throughout the human genome and has no known biological, disease, or therapeutic relevance. For the functional gene, see Ribosomal protein L30 (RPL30), which encodes a component of the 60S ribosomal subunit involved in protein synthesis. RPL30P13 does not encode this protein and should not be confused with the functional RPL30 gene.
