Ribosomal protein L30 pseudogene 9 (RPL30P9) is a processed pseudogene, meaning that it is a non-functional copy of the ribosomal protein L30 gene (RPL30). Pseudogenes are typically generated by retrotransposition and accumulate mutations, losing protein-coding potential and biological function. RPL30P9 does not code for a protein, does not have known biological function, and is not implicated in human disease or targeted by therapeutics. It is classified explicitly as a pseudogene in curated genomic resources and does not translate into a functional ribosomal protein. The parent gene, RPL30, encodes the 60S ribosomal protein L30, a component of the large (60S) ribosomal subunit, involved in protein synthesis. Many processed pseudogenes derived from RPL30 exist in the genome, but only the functional gene product has biological activity. As with most processed pseudogenes, RPL30P9 does not participate in canonical ribosomal functions (such as translation) and is not associated with disease phenotypes, therapeutic targeting, or drug interactions. There is no evidence in the literature or gene/protein databases of RPL30P9 being used as a biomarker, drug target, or having any medical significance. RPL30P9 is best considered a genomic relic that is not relevant to pharmacological or therapeutic targeting and should not be confused with functional ribosomal proteins.
