Overview

Ribosomal protein L31 pseudogene 25 (RPL31P25) is a processed pseudogene of the ribosomal protein L31 gene. Unlike the parental RPL31 gene, which encodes a structural component of the 60S ribosomal subunit involved in protein synthesis, RPL31P25 does not produce a functional protein and its direct biological role remains uncharacterized. Pseudogenes like RPL31P25 are non-coding DNA segments, usually derived from retrotransposition or duplication of functional genes, and may occasionally be transcribed but do not contribute to canonical ribosome function. There are numerous ribosomal protein pseudogenes within the human genome, and while some are implicated in gene regulation or disease in specific contexts, there is no evidence that RPL31P25 acts as a therapeutic target or has established disease relevance[6][7][8].
