Ribosomal protein L31 pseudogene 33 (RPL31P33) is classified as a processed pseudogene in the human genome and does not encode a functional protein[13][14][11]. Pseudogenes are gene sequences derived from functional genes but have lost the ability to code for a protein, often due to mutations or lack of regulatory elements. RPL31P33 is related by sequence to the ribosomal protein L31, which is a structural component of the large ribosomal subunit, but RPL31P33 itself is not functional and does not produce a ribosomal protein. As with most ribosomal protein pseudogenes, there are currently no established biological functions, clinical associations, or therapeutic applications for RPL31P33 in humans[13][14][11]. This entry is not considered a therapeutic target in any functional context.
