Overview

RPL31P4 refers to a processed pseudogene of the ribosomal protein L31 gene (RPL31). Pseudogenes are stretches of DNA that resemble known genes but typically do not encode functional proteins. RPL31P4 is not actively transcribed and is not believed to have biological function or clinical relevance, as is generally the case for most ribosomal protein pseudogenes which arise through retrotransposition events[4][6]. It reflects the strong tendency of ribosomal protein gene families to generate numerous pseudogenes dispersed throughout the genome due to retrotransposon activity. RPL31P4 is therefore not a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or traditional druggable target, but simply a non-functional genomic sequence related to the RPL31 family[4][6]. Notes on status: - There is *nothing to suggest RPL31P4 is a functional gene product or molecular target* in any disease or biological process[4][6]. - It should not be considered a therapeutic target or used for drug discovery. The canonical, functional gene in the family is **RPL31** ("Ribosomal protein L31")—not RPL31P4[2][3][7]. - There are many similar pseudogenes in the ribosomal protein gene families; RPL31P4 is one example among many unrelated to clinical or experimental targeting[4][6]. Summary: RPL31P4 (Ribosomal protein L31 pseudogene 4) is a noncoding pseudogene, not a druggable or therapeutic target, with no known molecular or biological roles. Any mapping to "RPL31P4" as a therapeutic target is incorrect.
