Ribosomal protein L31 pseudogene 42 (RPL31P42) is a processed pseudogene in humans, derived from the gene encoding ribosomal protein L31. While the canonical RPL31 gene codes for a functional component of the large ribosomal 60S subunit involved in protein synthesis[1], RPL31P42 does not encode a functional protein and has no known biological activity or role in disease. There is no evidence to suggest that RPL31P42 is involved in therapeutic targeting, disease mechanisms, or biomarker development. It is best classified simply as a non-functional genomic element, a member of the large family of ribosomal protein pseudogenes that exist throughout the human genome[8][3].
