Overview

Ribosomal protein L31 pseudogene 49 (RPL31P49) is a non-coding pseudogene present in the human genome, with sequence similarity to the ribosomal protein L31 gene (RPL31)[2][6][12]. Unlike the functional ribosomal protein L31, which is a structural component of the large 60S ribosomal subunit involved in protein synthesis, RPL31P49 does not produce a functional protein and does not have known biological or therapeutic roles. Such processed pseudogenes are common for ribosomal protein genes and generally do not perform cellular functions[3][5][9][12]. RPL31P49 is a non-functional, non-coding pseudogene, not a therapeutic target, and does not have molecular, biological, or clinical roles beyond its identification as a genomic locus with sequence similarity to a protein-coding ribosomal protein gene[2][6][12].
