Overview

Ribosomal protein L31 pseudogene 7 (RPL31P7) is a human genomic sequence classified as a processed pseudogene, related to the functional ribosomal protein L31 gene (RPL31)[1][2][8]. Unlike the active RPL31 gene, which encodes a protein component of the ribosomal 60S large subunit and is essential for protein synthesis[7][10], RPL31P7 does not encode a functional protein and has no demonstrated biological activity or relevance as a therapeutic or diagnostic target[1][2][8][10]. The existence of RPL31P7, like many ribosomal protein pseudogenes, is considered a byproduct of evolutionary genomic processes such as gene duplication and retrotransposon activity rather than functional necessity[8]. As such, RPL31P7 should not be considered a target for pharmacological or therapeutic research. Note: If the intended target was the functional ribosomal protein L31 gene (RPL31), that would be a structural ribosomal protein with well-described cellular roles, but RPL31P7 specifically refers to a nonfunctional pseudogene[1][2][8].
