Overview

Ribosomal protein L32 pseudogene 24 (RPL32P24) is a processed pseudogene derived from the parent ribosomal protein L32 (RPL32). Processed pseudogenes are DNA segments originating from reverse transcription and integration of mRNA transcripts, lacking introns and generally incapable of producing functional proteins. RPL32P24 does not encode a protein and is not known to have independent biological function or involvement in human disease; it is one of many ribosomal pseudogenes distributed throughout the genome as the result of retrotransposon activity[1][4]. The parental gene, ribosomal protein L32 (RPL32), encodes a structural component of the large ribosomal subunit (60S), but the pseudogene RPL32P24 is not expressed as a functional protein and has no known medical or research utility beyond its use as a genomic marker or reference sequence[1][5][7].
