Ribosomal protein L32 pseudogene 5 (RPL32P5) is a processed pseudogene, derived from retrotransposition of mRNA from the functional ribosomal protein L32 gene (RPL32)[1][3][9]. Pseudogenes are typically noncoding genomic DNA sequences that resemble functional genes but contain mutations or truncations preventing them from encoding functional proteins. While some pseudogenes have roles in gene regulation at the RNA level, there is no published evidence that RPL32P5 encodes a protein or serves as a therapeutic target. There are multiple pseudogenes related to ribosomal proteins scattered throughout the human genome, as is typical for ribosomal protein gene families[1][3][9]. Some ribosomal protein pseudogenes have been reported to have regulatory functions or altered expression in disease (such as RPL32P3 in brain endothelium[5]), but there is no such evidence available for RPL32P5. The canonical protein-coding gene is RPL32, encoding ribosomal protein L32, which is a constituent of the 60S ribosomal subunit[1][3][6]. Pseudogenes named in the style "RPL32P#" are not functional genes; only the parental RPL32 gene encodes a functional ribosomal protein[1][3][9]. There may be alternative names in some genomic databases, but none are in common biomedical use for RPL32P5. RPL32P5 is a processed pseudogene, not a functional protein or established therapeutic target. There is nothing to suggest it should be considered in drug discovery or biomarker contexts.
