Overview

Ribosomal protein L34 pseudogene 20 is a processed pseudogene in the human genome, annotated as RPL34P20. It is a sequence homologous to the RPL34 gene, which encodes a protein component of the large 60S ribosomal subunit, but RPL34P20 does not produce a functional protein. Like many ribosomal protein genes, multiple related pseudogenes exist as remnants of evolutionary duplication events. There is no evidence for protein-coding capacity, biological function, or relevance as a therapeutic target, disease gene, or biomarker. The presence of RPL34P20 in the genome is of academic interest primarily for studies of genome evolution and gene family expansion but not for clinical, pharmacological, or therapeutic purposes.
