Overview

Ribosomal protein L35a pseudogene 12 (RPL35AP12) is a processed pseudogene related to the ribosomal protein L35a gene (RPL35A) found in the human genome[4]. Pseudogenes like RPL35AP12 are genomic DNA sequences similar to normal genes but are typically non-functional and do not code for active proteins. RPL35AP12 does not have a known role in cellular biology, and there is no evidence supporting its involvement as a therapeutic target or disease marker. Its presence reflects the genomic history of gene duplication and retrotransposition rather than functional biology. The functional parent gene, RPL35A, is a structural component of the ribosome and mutations in RPL35A are implicated in Diamond-Blackfan anemia, but such disease associations are not relevant to RPL35AP12 as a pseudogene[2][10].
