Ribosomal protein L35a pseudogene 13 (RPL35AP13) is a processed pseudogene in the human genome. Processed pseudogenes are non-functional gene copies, typically derived from reverse transcription and integration of the mRNA transcript of their parental gene. RPL35AP13 shows sequence similarity to the functional gene encoding 60S ribosomal protein L35a but does not encode a functional protein. Pseudogenes such as RPL35AP13 can sometimes regulate their parental gene’s expression at the RNA level, but there are no data indicating RPL35AP13 has a significant regulatory function or any relevance as a therapeutic target[1][6][8].
