Overview

RPL35AP17 is a processed pseudogene of the ribosomal protein L35a (RPL35A) gene family. Unlike the functional RPL35A gene—which encodes a ribosomal protein of the 60S subunit essential for protein synthesis[2][3][7]—RPL35AP17 does not produce a functional protein. Pseudogenes are common in ribosomal protein families, resulting from genome duplication events and subsequent loss of function[3][7]. There is no evidence from current literature that RPL35AP17 plays a direct role in biology or disease, nor is it considered a therapeutic target or biomarker. If you meant the functional gene (RPL35A), it is involved in protein synthesis, cell cycle regulation, and is clinically associated with disorders like Diamond-Blackfan anemia[2][3][7]. However, RPL35AP17 itself is a pseudogene with no demonstrated function or clinical relevance.
