Ribosomal protein L35a pseudogene 21 (RPL35AP21) is a processed pseudogene in humans derived from the ribosomal protein L35a (RPL35A) gene. Unlike its parent gene, RPL35AP21 does not encode a functional protein and is not known to have biological function or involvement in disease. There are multiple RPL35A pseudogenes dispersed throughout the human genome, but only the functional RPL35A gene encodes a ribosomal protein, a component of the large 60S ribosomal subunit responsible for protein synthesis. RPL35AP21 has no direct relevance as a therapeutic target, biomarker, or drug-interacting protein[1][2][6].
