Ribosomal protein L35a pseudogene 3 (RPL35AP3) is a processed pseudogene derived from the ribosomal protein L35a gene (RPL35A). Pseudogenes such as RPL35AP3 do not encode functional proteins and typically lack biological activity. They are present in the human genome as genomic remnants of ancestral genes. As is common for ribosomal protein genes, multiple such pseudogenes exist, but they generally have no role as therapeutic targets or biomarkers. RPL35AP3 is not a protein, receptor, enzyme, or transporter. It is not considered a therapeutic target and does not code for a functional protein. RPL35A, the functional gene, encodes a protein component of the 60S ribosomal subunit involved in protein synthesis. RPL35AP3 and other similarly named pseudogenes (like RPL35AP23, RPL35AP33) are nonfunctional genomic copies and not clinically relevant targets.
