Ribosomal protein L35a pseudogene 33 (RPL35AP33) is a processed pseudogene in the human genome. Pseudogenes are non-functional segments of DNA that resemble functional genes but are typically not transcribed into proteins due to mutations or absence of regulatory elements. RPL35AP33, as a pseudogene, is related by sequence to the functional ribosomal protein L35a (RPL35A), which encodes a protein component of the large (60S) ribosomal subunit involved in protein synthesis. However, RPL35AP33 itself does not encode a functional protein and is not considered a therapeutic target, enzyme, receptor, or involved in known biological pathways or diseases. It is primarily of interest in genomic annotation and evolutionary studies, with no established roles in disease, drug interaction, or biomarker discovery[4][6].
