Target intelligence / Profile preview

Ribosomal protein L35a pseudogene 35 (RPL35AP35)

Target
RPL35AP35
Molecular classification
Pseudogene, Ribosomal protein-derived pseudogene
01

Overview

RPL35AP35 (ribosomal protein L35a pseudogene 35) is a processed pseudogene located on chromosome 17q11.2. It is a non-protein-coding DNA sequence derived from the ribosomal protein L35a gene (RPL35A), which encodes a structural component of the 60S ribosomal subunit. Pseudogenes generally do not encode functional proteins, and while some can regulate parental gene expression by acting as competitive endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs) or by generating small interfering RNAs, no well-established functional or disease role has been described for RPL35AP35. It is not considered a therapeutic target, and there are no known drugs, biomarkers, or safety concerns associated with this pseudogene.

02

Mechanism of action

None — As a pseudogene, it is not a drug target

03

Biological functions

No direct, canonical function; pseudogenes may occasionally modulate parental gene expression through RNA interactions, but no well-documented biological function for RPL35AP35 specifically
04

Disease associations

No known disease association for RPL35AP35 itself; the parental RPL35A gene is implicated in Diamond-Blackfan anemia, but RPL35AP35 does not have such roles
05

Safety considerations

None documented; targeting pseudogenes is not a therapeutic strategy
