Ribosomal protein L36 pseudogene 1 (RPL36P1) is a processed pseudogene that shares sequence similarity with the protein-coding gene RPL36, which encodes a structural protein component of the 60S subunit of the cytoplasmic ribosome[1][10]. Unlike functional genes, pseudogenes like RPL36P1 do not code for an active protein product. They typically arise through the retrotransposition of mRNA from the functional gene, becoming integrated into the genome as non-functional genomic sequences[4]. RPL36P1 has no confirmed protein product, established biological function, or role as a drug target, biomarker, or therapeutic receptor, and is not actively implicated in disease or cellular processes.
