Overview

Ribosomal protein L36 pseudogene 18 (RPL36P18) is a processed pseudogene related to the gene encoding ribosomal protein L36, which is a component of the large 60S ribosomal subunit[3][9][10]. Pseudogenes like RPL36P18 are non-protein-coding DNA sequences that resemble functional genes but typically lack the ability to encode functional proteins due to mutations or disruptions. RPL36P18 does not appear to encode a functional product and is not known to have a direct biological function or disease association. Unlike the protein-coding RPL36 gene, which is involved in ribosome assembly and protein synthesis[5][7], RPL36P18 does not participate in these processes, and there are no reports suggesting it functions as a therapeutic target or biomarker[3][9][10].
