Overview

Ribosomal protein L36 pseudogene 3 (RPL36P3) is a processed pseudogene in the human genome. Pseudogenes are DNA sequences similar to known genes but are nonfunctional due to mutations or lack of necessary regulatory elements. RPL36P3 is related in sequence to the functional RPL36 gene, which encodes a component of the ribosomal 60S subunit involved in protein synthesis. However, RPL36P3 itself does not produce a functional protein and does not encode a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or transcription factor. There is no evidence that RPL36P3 has any biological function, disease association, or therapeutic targeting relevance[7][5].
