Ribosomal protein L36 pseudogene 8 (RPL36P8) is a non-protein-coding genomic sequence in humans representing a processed pseudogene, originally derived from the parent gene encoding ribosomal protein L36[1][2][6]. Processed pseudogenes arise from retrotransposition events, where mRNA from a functional gene is reverse transcribed and reinserted in the genome, typically without regulatory elements or necessary coding regions for protein expression[6]. RPL36P8 retains sequence similarity to the parent RPL36 gene, but does not yield any functional protein, has no established biological activity, and is not a member of any druggable target family. Pseudogenes like RPL36P8 are numerous in the genome and generally serve only as markers of past retrotranspositional activity, unless proven to have regulatory or other non-coding roles, which is not documented for RPL36P8[1][6]. If a protein coding, druggable, or disease-relevant ribosomal protein L36 entity is required, the parent gene **RPL36 (Ribosomal protein L36)** should be referenced instead[5].
