Overview

RPL36AP15 is a processed pseudogene located in the human genome that shares sequence similarity with the ribosomal protein L36a gene (RPL36A) but does not produce a functional ribosomal protein[2][8][11][13][14]. While the parent gene (RPL36A) encodes a component of the 60S ribosomal subunit and is involved in protein synthesis, RPL36AP15 is classified as a pseudogene and is not known to fulfill any protein-coding or receptor function. Pseudogenes like RPL36AP15 may have regulatory roles in gene expression in some biological contexts, by mechanisms such as serving as miRNA sponges or producing non-coding RNAs that influence their parent gene, but specific regulatory functions for RPL36AP15 are not reported in current literature[5][11]. RPL36AP15 is not a therapeutic target, not directly involved in disease pathogenesis, and has no known pharmacological or clinical applications.
